This portfolio showcases the spectrum of my consulting work, from original authorship to sentence-level editing.
As an editor, my goal is to help your readers—and you, too—discover all that your written content has to offer.Â
As an author, I derive great satisfaction helping your outline or idea come to vivid fruition on the page.
It's Her Story: Marie Curie
Author
I researched and wrote this original graphic novel recounting Marie Curie's life and accomplishments for children ages 7-10, published by Sunbird Books. Reviewed and recommended by Kirkus and School Library Journal. Available through Bookshop.org, Amazon, and most big-box stores; also check your local library.

It's Her Story: Marie Curie was a featured book in the UK’s 2021 Summer Reading Challenge and reached Amazon’s Top 100 Best Sellers in Children's Biography Comics list.
Educator Guides, It's Her Story
Author
I developed educator guides for It's Her Story, a graphic-novel series for 7- to 10-year-olds recounting the lives and impact of inspiring women. Each guide includes discussion questions and hands-on activities in subjects such as math, science, journalism, language arts, music, socioemotional development, and more.

The series continues to grow. So far, featured figures are Rosa Parks, Marie Curie, Amelia Earhart, Ida B. Wells, Shirley Chisholm, and Dolly Parton.
Crip Camp educational curriculum
Educational consultant, editorial consultant
I consulted on educational frameworks, pedagogical content, and editorial matters for disability- and social-justice curriculum developed as a companion to Oscar nominated documentary CRIP CAMP.
UIC Latino Cultural Center dialogue guide
Editorial consultant
I developed a dialogue facilitation guide suitable for use by external organizations based on the Latino Cultural Center's internal guide and institutional knowledge. For this project, I converted the wisdom and expertise developed within in an organization into a complete and cohesive externally facing program.
Various original children's nonfiction

Where Do Animals Live?, a Disney Learning search-and-find with facts and photos of animals and habitats to match corresponding Disney worlds, as well as mini-science experiments and maker activities

Quiz-It Pen 4-Book Interactive Animal Library, a Britannica Kids book set that shares fascinating facts about animals and related questions requiring higher-order thinking

Discover With Me, a Baby Einstein easel book that features a story for babies on one side and early learning content for the parent on the other side
Reach Out and Read Illinois
Content consultant, program coordinator

Reach Out and Read works to close the school readiness gap by working with pediatricians and family physicians to promote language, literacy, and brain development in babies and preschool children from low-income families.

In 2015-2016, a Curie High School teacher pioneered a readathon with her students to benefit Reach Out and Read Illinois. I was engaged the following year to pilot the readathon idea citywide.
I developed and revised the readathon toolkit for participating classrooms. I also developed two brand-new curriculum series: one around the brain science behind Reach Out and Read's program, and the second around engaging local businesses to become readathon sponsors.

I also developed and implemented an outreach plan to bring in teachers, partners, and press.
